‘Teeth4Life’ campaign revealed

THE UK’s leading independent oral health charity, the British Dental Health Foundation, has revealed its National Smile Month UK campaign for 2010.

This year’s campaign slogan, Teeth4Life, highlights the importance of looking after your teeth and maintaining them for life, also stressing that a healthy diet can improve the quality of your life.

The campaign will run between May 16 and June 16, and encourages patients to maintain regular dental visits. BDHF chief executive, Dr Nigel Carter, said he believed this year’s Teeth4Life campaign would get the nation talking about the importance of good oral health.

He said: “When the first ever Smile campaign was launched more than 35 years ago, one in three people over the age of 16 had no teeth at all. Now that is something you really have to think about twice to appreciate.

“Fortunately, these days the situation is a much happier one. Most of us expect to keep our teeth for life and indeed do so. National Smile Month is all about educating people on how to make the best of their smile.”

In the lead-up to this year’s campaign, evidence of the first documented link between a foetal death and the mother’s pregnancy-related gum disease emerged. The case emphasised the importance of preventive dental treatment and good oral health practice.

“New scientific evidence of systemic links between oral health and overall body health continues to mount. Gum disease has been linked to diabetes, strokes and pregnancy problems as well as heart disease, so it is vital to look after oral hygiene. Almost all of us suffer from gum disease at some point in our lives, but it is easy to control and to prevent serious risks,” Dr Carter added.

The National Dental Helpline (0845 063 1188) receives thousands of calls every year for advice on preventative care and general oral health issues, alongside enquiries to the www.dentalhealth.org website.

To assist the public in maintaining good oral health, the Foundation will run three key messages throughout the campaign. They are:

  • brush teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste
  • visit the dentist regularly, as often as they recommend
  • cut down on how often you have sugary snacks or drinks.

It's never too late to have straight teeth!

We are delighted to welcome two dentists to our team. Helen Perry is an orthodontist with many years experience in orthodontics (the straightening of teeth). She has helped many people achieve their desired smile.

Do you dislike your crooked teeth? Do you wish you had them straightened when you were younger? Did you know it’s never too late?  Helen can help you.  She treats adults and children. There are various different methods used in orthodontics including the widely advertised Invisalign.  Helen will advise the best solution for you to create your special smile.

The second new team member is Nicky Wright.  Nicky has worked for many years in the area and will join the team as a general dentist on a part time basis and to cover holidays.  Nicky has a friendly, gentle manner and will prove an asset to the team.

Titchfield Dental Health offer time and understanding for nervous patients and we put patient care at the top of our list of priorities.

Titchfield Dental Health is a Winner!

Proof that Titchfield Dental Health’s patients receive the best, most comprehensive and advanced range of technologies and treatments came with our winning the ‘Best Dental Team’ award at the highly prestigious Private Dentistry awards in London last November.
This award builds upon the practice’s achievement of two commendations at the 2006 Private Dentistry Awards, when Titchfield Dental Health was awarded second place in the ‘Most Improved Practice’ category and runner up in the ‘Best Employer’ category.

Private Dentistry is the leading journal in UK dentistry and an award is a great accolade. Everyone at the practice works hard to ensure our patients receive the best treatment in the most comfortable and reassuring environment. We are all particularly proud that it was a reward for the whole team and as you can see, we enjoyed the celebrations!
